ChatGPT Ads Self-Service: What the August 31, 2026 Launch Means for Moroccan SMEs

Since August 31, 2026, businesses have been able to create, launch, and manage their own ChatGPT Ads campaigns through OpenAI Ads Manager without going through OpenAI’s sales teams. Self-service is now offered across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, with access expanding progressively to SMEs and startups, not just large accounts. A new advertising channel has therefore opened for Moroccan advertisers — the question is whether it deserves a share of media budget ahead of Meta and Google. DARE Communication asked its COO, Aahd Lkandouchi, for his take.

What ChatGPT Ads Self-Service Allows

In practice, advertisers register in Ads Manager, add payment information, set campaign budgets and bids, upload ads, launch campaigns, and view performance. Ads appear within ChatGPT, clearly labeled as sponsored and kept separate from the AI’s own responses. Targeting draws in part on the context and intent of the conversation, as well as selected signals when ad personalization is enabled. OpenAI Ads Manager remains in beta, so features and availability continue to evolve.

OpenAI is also testing Sponsored Agents: after clicking an ad in ChatGPT, a user can start a conversation with a business-sponsored agent. This approach turns an advertising click into a guided exchange rather than a simple redirect to an external website.

Should a Moroccan real estate developer or industrial company test ChatGPT Ads now?

Not as a replacement for what’s already working, no. On our real estate accounts, the Meta Ads plus Google Ads combo remains the foundation — it’s proven, it’s measurable, it’s where we know how to get cost per lead under 35 DH. ChatGPT Ads today is a beta-stage channel with still-limited targeting. I see it as a small-budget testing ground, not a campaign pillar.

Which type of advertiser should look into it first?

Industrial clients, more than real estate, in the short term. A B2B buyer asking ChatGPT technical questions before choosing a supplier — equipment, materials, a service provider — that’s exactly the moment a well-placed contextual ad can capture an intent you don’t see on Meta. The conversational format points in that direction: opening a conversation with a brand’s agent directly inside ChatGPT, rather than a simple click to a website. For an industrial client with a long sales cycle, that makes sense. For a real estate lead who needs to fill out a form and get called back quickly, less so for now.

How will DARE Coms evaluate this channel before committing a client’s budget to it?

Same discipline we apply to every new channel we’ve tested in recent years: small budget, short period, direct comparison of cost per lead against what we already get on Meta and Google. We don’t move a client’s main budget until a channel has proven it holds up in that comparison for at least a month. ChatGPT Ads is interesting, but “interesting” and “proven, numbers in hand” are two different things at our agency.

FAQ

What is ChatGPT Ads self-service and when did it become available?

It allows advertisers to create and manage their own advertising campaigns in ChatGPT through OpenAI Ads Manager without going through OpenAI’s sales teams. Self-service access opened across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa on August 31, 2026.

Can Moroccan SMEs already advertise on ChatGPT?

OpenAI announced self-service availability across North Africa and is progressively expanding Ads Manager access to SMEs and startups. The product remains in beta, and effective availability may still vary by account.

Does ChatGPT Ads replace Meta Ads or Google Ads for lead generation?

No, not at this stage. ChatGPT Ads remains a testing and scaling channel. It can complement an existing strategy rather than replace it, particularly for longer B2B sales cycles.
